The Round Robin Challenge: Togetherness

Togetherness...it is what you make it...
Togetherness...unto death...
'Together' means to be in or into a unified arrangement.Togetherness means being in or into a single group, mass or place...Therefore my interpretation of this weeks challenge is of a pluralised subject matter that is in unison in whatever they are trying yo achieve, in this case they two are as one, in one place...

The two chaps in the image are friends from church after a theatrical display in which the older played a vicar. I asked them to pose in this manner to create a controversial shot that would provoke thought. The thought being that togetherness does not result in agreement or unity.

It is also designed to be a pictorial representation of what happens to a child's life (that is, it is sucked out of them unto the death of their souls) when it is abused by an authority figure, in this case a priest as the many whose lives have been destroyed by the abuse they suffered at the hands of catholic priests who are now seeking understanding and finding their voice.

Love, togetherness, unity, oneness...these words can and are interpreted in different ways by different people depending on their personal perspective, group, social situation and often race, creed and gender. This social dynamic results in a false sense of oneness / togetherness where the reality is very much different from what is perceived.

I-Heart Faces Photo Challenge: Smirk

No! I don't want my picture taken!
This is a lovely little girl (once she relaxed that is) whose mother hired me to take her pictures and she was having none of it for the longest time, hence the smirk.

Round Robin Photo Challenge: Fenced In

My submission for the Round Robin Photo Challenge is of a boat that has been run aground enclosed with fencing.

I chose this image because of the certainly of the entrapment of the boat with no water in sight through the fencing...enjoy!

More fencing here!

ShutterDay: The Gathering Storm

The gathering storm
This is an image I took in Reading, United Kingdom when I went for a walk one late afternoon. The sky was changing rapidly during that half hour walk and as I went along I was sure it was going to rain. I chose this of all the images I took that day because it best depicts the movement of the clouds in preparation for what actually became a thunder storm whilst still giving us a sense of calm before the storm...

I love weather and take a lot of images of the sky and weather occurrences which can be seen here in various posts on Passion in the Moments, so please do feel free to have a look around.

Brenda Photo Challenge: Photo Essay

The mini soap opera series
I like to call this set 'The mini soap opera series', featuring my gracious models 'A & A double act'. The idea is that he is someone who lives in the same building and is trying to seduce the girl and though she flirts with him she ultimately rejects his advances.

This photo story is symbolic of human attitudes to life in that there are those who will go out and get what they want from life understanding that this is not a dress rehearsal and we only get one shot at living. While there are others who flirt with life but never really live it and finally those who are afraid of life and therefore are bystanders thus rejecting living and making choices.

Project Peter

Project Peter
I met Peter who is from Trinidad on the streets of Reading in the United Kingdom.. What first caught my eye about Peter was his brilliant white beard as I passed him on the street. His clothes looked old and in need of repair or better yet replacement with a bottle in one hand and a cigarette in the other at about midday. Peter seemed cheerful as he walked along the street humming to himself. I went back and stopped him and asked him if I could take his picture, a little risky admittedly as he could have been drunk or high on drugs. Luckily Peter was sober enough to hold a conversation and told of how he had come over in the late 50s as part of a drive by the UK government of the day to fill job roles that had shortages, bus and train drivers I believe. He had settled here, married and had children. However his marriage broke down and he was estranged from his children and now sleeps rough or in a shelter. He talked of how he wanted to return to his beautiful homeland but with no family still alive or living there or money for relocation the life he now lives is his only option. The final picture of Peter looking into the sky is the point when he considered memories of his homeland.

Round Robin Photo Challenge: Express a feeling

My entry for the Round Robin Challenge this week is that of my friend Sue's grandson Juke.

This image was taken the Christmas before Juke turned one. He is a delightful boy to watch and be around and I was captivated by him. Sue asked me to take a picture of Juke wearing a santa hat and as it was too big for him he had a little trouble with it which perplexed him as can be seen in the majority of the pictures until finally! In the last shot he emerged (literally) as the victor over the hat and that is the expression you see in the last frame of this montage photo story called Juke and Santa's hat!

Creative Editing: Changing the background to a colourful background
This is a picture of my friend Belle that I took when we were out for dinner a couple of weeks ago. I added the deep red background, streaming light from the top left hand corner, changed her skin tone, added a pencil drawn reflection and deepened the colour of her hair.

The Brenda Photo Challenge -- Dirt

My contribution to the Brenda Photo Challenge this week.
Dirt...an alternative way of life
I have picked this image for this week's challenge because it is not a usual sight in a country like the United Kingdom. The gentleman in the picture is a (white) English man who lives under the M4 flyover in London in this self made shack on the left. His camp can be accessed from the A4 going into London where I took this image just moments before he saw me and chased me into oncoming rush house traffic yelling how he does not want reporters near him. I did try to explain that I was not a reporter but thought it prudent to do so while I ran for my life! Dodging the cars I managed to cross the street to safety and I sit here now in one piece sharing this image with you.

In the UK there are many services and agencies that are dedicated to providing housing and services to prevent homelessness that it is not expected to see a sight such as this. This is something that one would envision takes place in the poorest countries in the world. Now as he did not want to talk to me I do not know if he is forced by his circumstances to live there or if it is by choice. What we do know is that he lives in an environment that could be described in one word...DIRT.

The Round Robin Photo Challenge: About Weather

This is my entry to the Round Robin Challenge this week.

Snowstorm in suburbia
I love snow and was probably one of the few who enjoyed the extreme weather of the 20009/10 winter in the UK. I lived in Bracknell, Berkshire at the time and on the day this picture was taken we had been snowed in for a couple of days! So my contribution is a treat for me because I now get to share my extreme weather pictures from the interesting time in weather with all of you!

The Round Robin Photo Challenge : By The Water

This is my entry for the Round Robin Photo Challenge this week.
Riverside bathing.
I call this picture Riverside bathing because that is essentially what is going on in the image. I took the picture this week along the River Thames, at Henley-On-Thames docks. There were many birds and boats out that day and when I thought of the challenge I had my eye out for something interesting and I think I got it! One of the things that made me choose this image is that it literally shows you what happens by the water!

I-Heart Faces Photo Challenge - Purple Photo

As a new member to I-Heart Faces (as in I joined yesterday!), this is my first entry in any challenge and so the 'Purple' Photo challenge this week is really exciting for me! I was not sure if I should enter so soon after joining but then I thought why not! It is bound to be good fun and it will be great to get feedback form seasoned photographers.

This is my entry -- I took this image as part of a series for a colour therapist who was changing her teaching material. It was a lot of fun working with lots of colour and learning a little about how colour impacts an individual on a sub-conscious level.

Fly away with me...

One thing I would love to do is go up in a hot air balloon...so when I saw one flying over the city, I could not resist to capture it and dream that I was flying away with it! :-)
