Rue's Friday Fragments #10

Hi I'm Rue, the artist and voice behind Passion in the Moments / E:thos Photographic. As you may have gathered in looking around the blog,  I think a lot and share those thoughts with all and sundry (that is anyone who will listen!). This weekly posting is essentially an opportunity to share tid-bits, rants and observations that I have made in the course of the week that are not really worth writing a whole article about but are interesting nevertheless. These coupled with that odd picture I have taken that doesn't really fit in anywhere, news about what's going on @ E:thos and a review of something interesting, put together in one post makes up what I call Rue's Friday Fragments. There is humour, righteous indignation, sad truths and a little of me, so something for everyone...enjoy!
10. Picture of the week
New Forest, England
9. The next royal wedding...awwww...
Yes it was a pleasant 'non' surprise (in a good way) to hear of the pending nuptuals between Prince Wills and his lady love...I wish them every happiness :)

8. Who needs the internet when you can have this?
OK so maybe the internet is an easier option! Saw the picture online and smiled to myself thinking that is exactly what books would look like if we crammed all the information available on line into hardbacks.

7. Aung San Suu Kyi of Burma freed!
It is fantastic news to hear that Suu Kayi the pro-democracy oposition party leader in Burma has been released from a military impossed house arrest for the past 15 years. Now I am a home body and love being at home, but if I was forced to be there day in and say out every day for 15years, no trips to the supermarket, drycleaners, doctors etc I would feel at best uncomfortably oppressed and at worst imprisoned. Now if this was done because I had commited a crime, fair enough, but because I am speaking out peaceably for the rights of a nation seeking nothing for myself I would be super angry and ready to declar war on my captures. Aung San Suu Kyi came out and told the crowd outside her house moments after her release that the nation needs to be unified to establish true democracy.... Wow...one can only hope that this is a positive step in the right direction.

6. Public transport can always be worse...
If you have had the joys of tube strikes / delays (in the UK) and other challenges in your local area when it comes to public transport service, or lack there of, this video clip should encourage you that your situation where you live is not that bad and it could be significantly worse....Furthermore, for all of you who are anti health and safety, your opinion may be altered, even slightly after viewing...

5. American Express Ad
I absolutely love what American express and Conan O'Brian are doing in this advert and the spirit behind it. I love how Conan goes through the process of making his stage curtains and connecting with every stage (and people) of the production process along the way showing that nothing comes easy but it can come if you work hard at it (or use your plastic I guess). Finally I like how he speaks to the native Indians in their mother tongue. This marketing tool totally worked on me (however it did not sell the product to me) I actually believe in what this organisation stands for because of the way they are represented in this ad... Good will eventually leads to customers right so I would say mission accomplished, I am totally a fan.

4. Death on honeymoon
This is the saddest story of the week. A honeymooning couple were attacked in South Africa and the new bride was murdered. I love South Africa and have never experienced any violence there myself but when you hear stories like this it causes one to fear and worry....my thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

3. Wow!
A friend recently went to Africa and was speaking to a local girl who thought she would like to be fixed up with a local man (this is South Africa again btw). As this girl was trying to sell this guy to my friend she stated that he was nice, successful and (I quote), 'Don't worry he wont beat you'! So she stop her at this point with her mouth wide open! I then did exactly the same...So basically the impression we have is that in South Africa, one should expect to be beaten by a man in a relationship unless it is disclosed that the said man does not beat women! OMG! am I the only person on the floor trying to pick up my jaw?????

2. 'Thou doth protest...but is it too much?
Rioting students in the capital was a big story I read and talked about this week. The riots were in aid of the new structure of university fees payments. The government of the land has decided to open the flood gates and allow universities to pretty much set fees as they wish for undergraduate (first) degree courses meaning that where local students currently pay £1 000 a year for their course, they could not potentially pay upwards of £6 000 a year. This is a big swing and so I can see why the students are not so happy but destructive and violent behaviour is not cool at all!

1. Song of the week
Michael Jackson - Gone too soon
Time flies when you're having fun! This is my dedication to everyone who has been a part of the last decade of my life in the UK, my 20's are definitely gone too soon but our friendships will last forever :)

And that's it for this week folks! A day late but well worth waiting for I think! And remember you can get in touch by commenting or emailing me atethosphotographic@gmail.com

Home not away...

Home is where my heart goes...
Home.

Home is where my heart goes.
When I think of good days...
When I think of past times...
When there is a quite moment...

Home.

Home is where I really belong.
Where I can be just me...
Where I can express my passion...
Where there is no conditional love...

Home.

Home is where I am loved.
How I need to be loved...
How I love to be loved...
How one ought to be loved...

Home.

Home is just where you are.
You...the fruit of my womb...
You...the sisters of my heart...
You...the brothers of my protection...
You...the parents of my days...
You...the love of my life...

Home is you...yes its you.
