Rue's Friday Fragments #9

Hi I'm Rue, the artist and voice behind Passion in the Moments / E:thos Photographic. As you may have gathered in looking around the blog,  I think a lot and share those thoughts with all and sundry (that is anyone who will listen!). This weekly posting is essentially an opportunity to share tid-bits, rants and observations that I have made in the course of the week that are not really worth writing a whole article about but are interesting nevertheless. These coupled with that odd picture I have taken that doesn't really fit in anywhere, news about what's going on @ E:thos and a review of something interesting, put together in one post makes up what I call Rue's Friday Fragments. There is humour, righteous indignation, sad truths and a little of me, so something for everyone...enjoy!

9. Post US Primaries thoughts....the good, the bad and the voice of the people...
The US primaries have concluded now I beleive and I must admit I am not one for politics, let alone politics in forign lands unless there is a human rights issues associated with it, its just not something I feel qualified to have an opinion on. Having said that I came across a few interesting things about the US primaries and Us politics that I would like to share more than comment on.... The good is that it has been a truly democratic display with the voice of the people being heard. The bad I guess is having the current government backed into a corner as they lose control to the Republicans which will make for tough governing I am sure...Just looking at the Mickey Mouse way in which British politics is playing out, I am sure there will be plenty to say on this dynamic in the future. But this fragment is really about the voice of Americans. I do admire how Americans use their vote to give sound to their voices and their politicians know that they cannot ignore the voice of the people or they will lose and lose big as Obama's team discovered. I will say no more but to bring your attention to the voice of one American man whose video clip was sent to me by a friend last week.I must say that I am a great believer in free speech and exercise my rights thus
but this guy rendered me speechless....

8.Mammy Rock [aka Ruth Flowers]

This is Mamy Rock, the oldest DJ (Disc Jokey) rocker grandmother on the planet (as far as I know anyway!) and she is really into it! She plays at raves / gigs / clubs and generally is a hit! So there you go! Ruth is 69, from Bristol, England and plays in the UK, Europe and now America. She was recently interviewed on sky news and she is interesting to listen to [see interview here] and For all those who say there is a) an age limit on working, b) certain jobs are for certain people and c) older folk dont get modern music...Mamy Rock should put an end to your assumptions and well prejudices! Good on you Mamy Rock!!!!

7. Turkey mayor wants his town demolished!
At a glance this may sound like a disgruntled government official but the reality is far worse and so sad. This town called Tuzkoy and its surrounding villages have been built my loacl soft yellow rock which is used for chimneys, cave churches and other structures. They are so beautiful and are a big hit tourism wise. However the town has always suffered from a high rate of respiratory related infections causing almost half the deaths in the area. A Dr Baris who has had a keen interest in the medical dynamics of the town after much study discovered that the towns folk were in fact suffering and dying from mesothelioma 'which is a virulent form of cancer' which is caused by exposure to asbestos the real tragedy is that many of the towns people cannot afford to move to a safe place so they continue to live in these building and let their children play in and around them in spite of now knowing the risks. [See more here].

6. Spirit of Australia up in smoke
The Quantas QF32 was reported as being a 'flying wreck'
The air bus' engine exploded mid-air shooting chunks of metal through fuel tanks and flight control system. Thank goodness no one was hurt and that the plane returned safely to Singapore where it had taken off from. My note is about the picture featured on an Australian news website that depicts the plane's engine burnt out and keeps the 'spirit of Australia' tag that Quantas uses which is incredible suggestive and is a very loud message all in one brings a whole new meaning to the saying,  'a picture is worth a thousand words'.

5.Water-boarding terrorist suspects...the American way?
Bush memoirs storm the book stores and stir human rights activists. So its official! At some point they did torture people and they used inhumane ways to do it. Wow, who publishes that even if its true?
So now the world has been officially notified that America will so go there if you get them vexed!

4. Kids Rule
Maybe a slight exaggeration but in the UK it may as well be true as parents and teachers in particular are so restricted when it comes to disciplining children that the government is 'The Gun' the kids use to ward off adults!

3. Charity: Water
This is an amazing charity! Please log onto their website have a look around and do what you can to support them --

2. Gwynth Paltrow sings live....finally!
Now I am a fan of Gwyneth Paltrow since way back when it was Gwyn and Brad, before Jen and Brad that was succeeded by Brangelina. Anyway I am so a fan and for years there has been rumours of Gwyn being a crooner (singer) and yet no albums or singing career came through so it was always a mystery. Well the mystery is over, Gwyn can sing and did sing the other day at the CMA Awards 2010. Many have completely overlooked her great voice with the debate about if and why she was pretending to play a guitar and the accent she sang in but I say good on you Gwyn for singing live for the first time! [See her sing here]
